After majority of us spending 2020 in sweats, track pants and loungewear it’s time to embrace some everyday flair and frivolity according to the tastemakers and trend setters in the fashion industry. Vogue has coined it “everyday exuberance” and this trend will be a mainstay through the whole of 2021. Think vivid colours, fringed trims, tulle, feathers, embroidery, beading, bold silhouettes and eye catching patterns.
Purposely choosing to wear clothing that brings a smile to your face, clothing that you love (no matter what you are doing and where are going) can result in an uplifted mood and an elevated outlook on your appearance too.
As Dr Rose Turner from the Fashion Psychology department at the London Collage of Fashion put it “getting dressed up may help people to reinforce their sense of self”. Now this doesn’t mean wearing a cocktail dress everyday, it means wearing what makes you happy and you feel your best in. This could mean wearing your favourite colour, pulling out that piece that has sentimental meaning or even reminds you of a happier occasion such as a great night with your girl friends or even a past summer holiday, that luxe piece you have been saving for a fabulous but rainy day or a piece of clothing that you just LOVE.
If 2020 has taught us anything its that every day is special and it’s time to embrace whatever makes us happy every single day so don’t wait for that special occasion anymore. Next time you see that beloved piece in your wardrobe that brings you joy and positivity, throw it on for an instant mood boost —whether you’re heading out or (like I currently am) creating a permanent butt imprint in your couch.
