The easiest and cheapest way to update your current wardrobe and favourite outfits is with accessories. Especially in a time when our work meetings are now over Zoom or Skype and our catch up with friends is over House Party looking our best from shoulders up has become a priority. The easiest way to look your polished with little effort is adding accessories and jewellery to our working from home outfits (check out my IGTV breaking this down with outfit inspiration here).
Coco Chanel is known to have said that before leaving the house take one thing off. However in a time where minimalism & monochrome is trending I believe we often need to add something to our overall look before leaving the house (or sitting on front of the laptop as is the case currently). Accessories like jewellery are a great way to add personality to an outfit, create interest or inexpensively change the look of an outfit. Adding jewellery also gives the perception that you spent greater effort than you really did when getting dressed and immediately adds polish, as mentioned before.
Perth is home to some amazing jewellery and accessory labels and below I’m going to share my favourites.
Perth jewellery label Kitsense comes from the mastermind of Sandy Daniels whose other venture Hello Parry has been a proven success in the Perth fashion scene. Kitsense has the largest array of hoop earrings, from statement chunky hoops to the most delicate loops so there is a style for everyone and every occasion. I also love their fine gold chains, perfect for layering over a basic tee. Lastly for those that need to dress up bed hair (let’s be honest we hav all been there before a video conference) the freshwater pearl hair slides in collaboration with Murong Label are just the solution.
Poppy Lissiman’s self named accessories label has been a go-to in the Perth fashion industry since 2008. A label that started with clutches and bags has now developed with the addition of sunglasses and belts just as successfully. Poppy Lissiman accessories are quirky, fun, eclectic and vegan friendly, the perfect accessory to brighten up your isolation mood. Poppy Lissiman sunglasses have also graced the face of influentials like Billie Eilish, Bella Hadid and Paris Hilton, that’s hot. The sunglasses are great for covering Netflix tired eyes while you sip your morning coffee on the balcony or in the backyard.
Mountain & Moon is a statement jewellery label run by best friends Audrey and Ashton (pictured above, right image). Expect luxe gold, semi precious stones & designs founded on the idea that more is more. Mountain & Moon jewellery has the perfect statement pieces that will take a basic white tee from well, basic to glam. Adorn your fingers of layer chains with mix & match pendants or go the full Mountain & Moon aesthetic by doing all of the above and finishing with some ear candy.
Founded by Belinda Madonni Bianko is an ethical and sustainable jewellery label with a focus on quality and pieces that are suitable for everyday. Bianko pieces are often feminine, delicate and fine which make them perfect to add just a little something something to your outfits on a daily basis.
Want to be the fanciest in the house? Make all the others on your Zoom call jealous? Then give your ears some serious glitz with Preston & Howlett’s statement earrings. Preston & Howlett jewellery is for the woman that isn’t afraid to be a little luxe, a little extra even in isolation. Expect modern, intricate designs in gold with pearls and semi precious gems. Another reason to love Preston & Howlett? They also offer their styles in clip on options, so even those without pierced ears can live the luxe life.
For inexpensive costume jewellery that is locally based, Rhyme & Reason is the answer. Rhyme & Reason stock jewellery and accessories like sunglasses and hair clips for the modern woman, with styles ranging from delicate hoops and chains to statement bejewelled earrings. There is something for every outfit that won’t break your budget.
Lastly if you don’t have the means to support local by purchasing it’s completely understandable at a time like this. Why not engage with local boutiques, labels & brands via social media? Or share their posts, you never know what your reach could do to positively impact someone. Knowing we are all in this together can be powerful in feeling less isolated and reducing anxiety.
